Haarlemse huizen vertellen verhalen (Haarlem houses tell stories) contains a textual and visual inventory of historic interiors in Haarlem in four streets: Wagenweg, Zijlweg, Baan and Oosterhoutlaan. It was commissioned by the Municipality of Haarlem and carried out by Esther de Haan of Erfgoed Noord-Holland.
After an introductory section about the streets, the architects and the stylistic characteristics of the houses, there are four sections on characteristic interior elements: stained glass, stucco ornaments, wall and floor tiles, and interior panelling.
It is a slim publication – 42 pages – packed with images: the 188 photographs of interior elements are spread over six spreads and eight fold-outs.
Details from historical photographs introduce and conclude the publication. The front and back flaps of the cover feature the 1905 expansion plan by city architect L.C. Dumont.
The publication was digitally printed by Impressed and bound with orange thread by Van Hees-Patist. Jos Morree (Fine Books) supervised the production.
